Lorraine PURDON Obituary
PURDON, Lorraine Gail (known affectionately as Sue) May 16, 1950 - September 11, 2019 A wonderful life, unfortunately, ended - surrounded by much love and at her favorite place in the world, Red Door Farm. Sue was raised in the Niagara Peninsula and bravely set forth to start her exciting life at age 17 when she chose to study nursing in London, England. From there, she traveled extensively, choosing to return to Canada in 1971, where she soon married John, her childhood sweetheart who remained her loving husband for 47 years. Sue and John had an incredibly full life, filled with exciting travel, many home renovations and cottages built - lots of excitement, love and much fun - and then finally coming to settle at Red Door Farm, about twenty years ago, a beautiful sanctuary to be filled with friends and family. Anyone who knew Sue knew that her life's true work and her proudest achievement was her family - beginning with her beloved daughters, Sara (Dell), and Heather (Graham), and her most cherished grandchildren Trent, Oliver, Isaac and Silas. Sue was the hub around which her extended family revolved. Everyone felt her love, from her two sisters Heather and Jackie to her brother Shawn. Sue did not stop there, continually opening up her heart to so many spouses, nieces, nephews, boyfriends and girlfriends and her beloved 'bridge' and book clubs. Add to this, her close friends that she made while nursing to so many friends who, over the years, became like family to Sue - on an on - all wrapped up in her love. Sue's hospitality was legendary and she loved to gather people together. Whether it was holiday's, summer long weekends, a bridge or book club gathering or a simple dinner on a Tuesday night - she loved to take care of people and she delighted in being with her family and friends. Maybe over the years, you received one of her handwritten notes that she loved to send, some of her home baking or maybe you were lucky enough to get one of her beautifully knit or needlework baby gifts for your little one. If you were lucky enough to be loved by Sue, there was no question in your mind about the kind of person that she was - she is already so deeply missed, will be forever remembered and was so greatly loved. In lieu of sending flowers, which Sue loved so much, please gather your family around your table tonight and enjoy a lovely meal or buy yourself some flowers to brighten up your home.
