Mark SUTHERS Obituary

May 2, 1944 - December 21, 2022

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Mark at his home on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the age of 78. He will be sadly missed by his children Nicole (Suthers) and Adrian Smith, and Sharyn (Suthers) and Kevin Kearney; along with his grandchildren, Fionn and Axton, who thought the world of their grandpa. Mark will be sadly missed by his sisters Susanne Suthers, Michele (Suthers) Purdy and Lynn Suthers, his Marine Corps brothers and his extended family and many great friends. Mark was predeceased by his parents Donald and Cécile Suthers.
SSgt Mark Suthers was a proud US Marine who served in the Vietnam War as a tanker communication radio repairman with the 2d Platoon, B Company, 1st Tanks. He was a proud member of the Smiths Falls Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and working around his property. He was a brilliant man having completed two Marine Corps courses and his PhD in Electrical Engineering and then spent his career working for Nortel. He was a proud developer of FlexEng Technologies Inc. Mark took pride in building his dream home on his land in Lanark for his family. He loved to host dinners for his family and friends. Any occasion that could be celebrated, he always offered to make elaborate meals. Mark had a love for making wine, and thoroughly enjoyed those that took part in the process. His love of teaching others his knowledge and wisdom will never be forgotten. In keeping with Mark's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Aman Lara Project or the Canada-Ukraine Foundation in Mark's name.

Mark and I shared a bond forged in the US Marine Corps during our tenure at Camp Lejeune. Our camaraderie transcended our service, blossoming into a lasting friendship that has endured over time. Mark exemplified honor and pride in his service, carrying himself with unwavering dignity.

Beyond our military days, our connection remained steadfast. A trip to his home in Lanark stands out in my memory, where we explored his cherished hunting spots. These outings not only reflected his love for the outdoors but also provided moments for us to exchange thoughts on a myriad of topics.

Mark's devotion to his family was unmistakable; he spoke of them fondly and with immense pride. His admiration for his loved ones was palpable in every conversation we shared over the years.

Your absence is deeply felt, my friend. Rest peacefully, my brother. Ted Lunacek, USMC
