Martyn Thomas Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of one of the good guys. At home, surrounded by the love of his family, Martyn Esmor Thomas peacefully passed at sunrise on April 26, 2021 after a third courageous battle with cancer. His life path was rather interesting: born in Rhyl, North Wales, Martyn engaged in an exciting rally car racing career at an international level before coming to Canada. Here, he called Chantry home for almost 50 years and was grateful for all the opportunities Canada offered. He loved summer fun with family and "grandpa chase" with his grandchildren at the cottage in Delta. He was a family man and active member within the community. He will be remembered for his kind, friendly nature, and positive spirit. His children will remember him as being a loving mentor. He was a classy gentleman in his collared shirts, who always revved the car engine before turning it off. His sense of humour and laughter will be deeply missed. He was a rare gem and was loved by family and many friends from all over the world. Rest easy Martyn with a Y...you left this world better than you found it. A life well lived and a legacy to be proud of. Job well done. We will "rally on" in your honour. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elgin Lions Club. Their immediate support made it possible for dad to remain at home. For that, we will be forever indebted. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Martyn was the first, and in the end the best, friend that I made when I moved across the road from him 8 years ago. We drank many cups of tea together, as well as the occasional coffee or can of beer, and we talked and laughed and grumbled together at this pesky getting old business. When one of us needed a hand, the other was always there to help. Martyn helped connect me to the community around me in my new home. He was a good and decent man, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

We met Martyn at my brothers funeral (Super Ted). He was such a pleasure to talk to and he filled us in on what my brother had done for him and his boys when their car had slipped off the road into the ditch. My brother had gone and got a tractor and pulled them out. God bless you Martyn
