My sincerest condolences to the Lunney and Smith family.
I first met Mrs. Mary Lunney when she was Miss Smith (my grade 5 teacher at St. Mary's School in Ottawa). We lived on Breezehill avenue and Miss Smith lived on Bayswater Avenue). Throughout the years I kept in touch with Miss Smith via letter or cards at Christmas. I shared my news of my parents, my family and my career over the years. Now you are probably wondering why? the simple fact is I liked Miss Smith as a teacher and as a person. She made a tremendous impact on me and she certainly encouraged me to work hard and with purpose. Over the years Mrs. Lunney did share some updates about her kids, what they were doing and where they lived, etc. The last Christmas card I received from Mrs. Lunney was 2 years ago - it was a short message with seasonal greetings.
Thank you for teachers like Miss Smith - and it's a testament that her former student going back some 50 years ago has kept in touch with her over all these years and remembers her fondly.
Rest in peace Miss Smith.

My sincerest condolences to the Lunney & Smith family
Mrs. Lunney (Miss Smith) was my teacher at St. Mary's School in Ottawa - grade 5, in the 1960's.
Over the years I kept in touch with Miss Smith and then Mrs. Lunney by letter and Christmas cards. We would exchange updates and it was so wonderful to receive them. Now, why did I keep in touch over the years....simply because she was a great teacher who made an impact on me. She encouraged me to learn and to work hard, and I liked her because she was kind. We kept in touch over all these years and it was a joy to receive her cards. I'm so sorry for your loss, she was a wonderful teacher, role model and a good person.
