Peter SCHIRMACHER Obituary
1938 - 2023
With great sadness, the family announces that Peter also known to many as "Mr. Marvellous", died on Monday, May 8, 2023 at the Arnprior hospital following a brief illness with pancreatic cancer and dementia. Peter was a pioneer in the health food industry, opening the very first health food store in Ottawa in the 1970s, Peter's Health Foods at Lincoln Fields Shopping Center. That was followed by a career in commercial real estate. Peter loved to golf and played as much as he could when living in Florida. He also got to play on Pebble Beach in California. For the last 20 years, Peter and Renate enjoyed wonderful winters in Sun City Center, FL. Such a great group of friends gathered for many dances and parties. When not in Florida, he enjoyed living at the cottage on White Lake. He got to travel the world, went on many cruises, was a big soccer and hockey fan, and loved playing skat with his friends. He truly got to do it all. He is survived by his wife Renate; daughter Sonya and will be remembered by many relatives and friends here in Canada and Germany. Peter's final care has been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
