ANNA TORCHIA Obituary
August 26, 1904 ~ March 12, 2003
It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family announces the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
Anna Torchia passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 12, 2003. Anna was a year and a half away from reaching the century mark in her life. She was 98 when God decided to put his arms around her and take her to his garden in heaven.
Her beautiful life began on August 26, 1904 in Amato, Catanzaro, Italy. It was in Amato where she married her love and companion Gabriele Torchia and raised her eight children. In anticipation of a healthier and prosperous life for her family, Anna, along with her husband immigrated to Kamloops, Canada in April of 1967.
Anna was a proud member of a large and notable family that encompassed the countries of Canada, Argentina and Italy. She was a loving, caring and respectful lady who left a legacy of family and friends. Anna was a people's person and loved to share countless stories and memories. She was actively involved with her gardening and loved to go for walks. She was also quite passionate about her knitting and ensured that every member of the family wore her famous knitted socks.
Anna was a faithful member of the Catholic religion and regularly attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She was an unending source of support for her community and family and will continue to be as they remember her examples of integrity, honesty and strong family values. She lived by the philosophy of "love, happiness and peace" and she was proud of both her accomplishments and her family's
Anna was predeceased by parents Giuseppe and Serafina Pingitore, adoring and loving husband Gabriele Torchia, brother Pietro, sisters Maria and Caterina, beloved daughter Carolina Lucia and son-in-law Francesco Lucia.
Anna is survived by her loving children Giuseppina ( Frank Scalise), Serafina (Antonio Spada), Luigi Torchia (Giulia), Isabella ( Giuseppe Scalise) from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Giuseppe Torchia (Lina), Franca (Luigi Comita) and Maria (Mike Ilic). She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayers will be recited on Monday, March 17, 2003 at 7:00 pm at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Father Nguyen will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Mausoleum.
