Dennis Giddens Obituary
On February 11th 2006, Dennis Seymour Giddens passed away peacefully at Royal Inland Hospital. Dennis was born in Kamloops on January 1, 1920. He was predeceased by his father Harry, mother Elizabeth, brother Joe and recently his sister Elsie.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Eleanor, his beloved children and grandchildren, Rod (Marlene) Jeff and Julie; Brian (Mindie) Jami, Natasha, Josh and great grandchild Benjamin; Susan (Don) van der Horst, Matthew and David; John (Candice) Kiel, Travis and Justin, David (Linda) Lee and Andrew. Dennis also leaves behind several nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Dennis began his working career in 1936 at H. Giddens Ltd. He joined the army in 1939 and served in the Rocky Mountain Rangers Army regiment. In 1946 he rejoined H. Giddens Ltd. with his partners, brother Joe Giddens and brother in-law Stan Humphrey. In 1971 he changed the company name to Giddens Services Ltd. and continued until his sons took over in 1987.
Dennis was very active in his church and community including Knights of Columbus 4th degree, Fr. Le Jeune?s Senior Citizens Society, 1993 Summer Games, The Elks and R.M.R. bands and many other organizations.
Dennis loved playing the piano and clarinet, listening to Orchestra music, and spending time at the Shuswap Lake cabin. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Senior?s Village, the Nurses of 6th North for your caring and compassion, You are all truly God?s angels here on earth. We also ?wish to thank Doctors R. Mehin, S. Prasad and especially Dr. Mike Wilson for their care.
Prayers will be recited on Thursday February l6th, 2006, 7:00 pm at Sacred Heart Cathedral. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Fr. Derrick Cameron on Friday, February 17, 2006, 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends desire, donations may be sent to St. Ann?s Academy, 205 Columbia Street, Kamloops, BC V2C 2S7 in memory of Dennis.
