George Akio Nishimura passed away peacefully at Royal Inland Hospital on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 67 years of age.
He is survived by his brothers Tom of Salmon Arm, and Sam (Yoko) of Brentwood Bay. He is also missed and remembered by his nephews Dean of Kamloops and Ed of New Jersey, and niece Ann Nishimura and her husband Doug Schlenker of Victoria.
Predeceased by his father Ichihei on September 21, 1998 and his mother Shizue on March 23, 2004.
George was born in Vancouver on April 2,1939. During the Second World War, his family were forced from their home in Vancouver and were sent to the sugar beet fields in Raymond, Alberta. The family returned to BC to reside in Kamloops in 1952. George worked in accounting departments in the City of Kamloops and Syd Smith Ltd. He was employed at Purity Feed until his retirement.
George was active in the Kamloops Japanese Canadian Association, the Kamloops Chapter of the National Association of Japanese Canadian Association, and the Kamloops Buddhist Temple. As an accountant, he was very helpful in the organizations.
George had a great interest in fishing in his earlier years. He enjoyed bowling and took great pride in his gardening and flower beds. George helped his father create an award winning Japanese Garden. He also enjoyed visiting the casinos.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Leung, and the nurses and staff of Royal Inland Hospital.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2007 in the Kamloops Buddhist Temple, 361 Poplar Street with Sensei Yasuhiro Miyakawa officiating. Burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
