MCKEEN ~ 1921-2004

Dr. James Loring Read Mckeen, passed away on January 12, 2004 at Royal Inland Hospital.

He was predeceased by sister Patty - 1929, mother Elisabeth - 1952; father Curtis - 1965, sister Marni (McCracken) - 2001, sister Helen (Fowler) - 2002, and his first wife Ruth Mckeen Dec. 2003.

Survived by sons Ken (Holly) of Chilliwack, and Scott (Paula) of Kamloops, daughter Susan (Larry) Brown of Balfour, and grandchildren Lia, Jamie-Lou, Joseph, Keri, and Michael.

Jim was born July 28, 1921 in Penticton and spent his first 18 years there. In 1940 he joined the army with the First Canadian Survey Regiment. He left for England December 1940 and served in Europe and North Africa returning home at the end of the war, five years later, to start his medical training at the University of Alberta. After serving his internship in Vancouver, Jim joined The Burris Clinic as a general practitioner in 1953. In the ensuing 33 years he built a large practice serving as physician and counsellor to many who knew him as a very patient and caring person. He retired from medical practice in 1986. During his retirement Jim travelled to a number of countries in South America and Europe, finally settling on Cuba as his favourite vacation getaway, returning several times.

In August 2000 Jim moved to Pine Grove Lodge where he resided until his death.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Pine Grove for the excellent care given to Dad during his stay there.

At Jim?s request there will be no funeral service. An informal gathering of family and friends will be held in the Board Room at the Coast Canadian Inn on Saturday, January 17, 2004 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Friends old and new are most welcome to attend.
