Minnie Waslenchuk Obituary

Mickey Waslenchuk passed away after a courageous battle with cancer the morning of January 13th, 2008 in her 80th year. Born in Tees AB, educated in Ponoka AB, Van BC, Red Deer AB and Garbutts Business College in Calgary AB. Married in Central United Church, Calgary on May 22nd, 1946. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Nick. her sons Ross (Brenda) Kamloops and Dennis (Lorraine) New London, Conn. Also left to cherish her memory are grandson Brent, granddaughters Tracy Cheshire (Dan) and Nikki Watt as well as many friends made in the Monte Creek/Kamloops/Shuswap areas since she & Nick left Alberta for B.C. in 1958 to purchase the Monte Creek Chevron. Predeceased by parents Arthur and Elizabeth Gardner (Dougherty), her sister Josephine, and brother Clinton.

Mickey was a devoted wife, as well as a very supportive and proud mother. She was a hard worker who could not rest until the last dish was washed, and will be fondly remembered for her ability as a ?baker extraordinaire?. We?ll miss those apple pies!

Mickey was very creative and loved the outdoors, spending many hours camping & fishing on her favorite lakes. She enjoyed curling, was an active golfer and had a love of reading.

At Mom?s request, there will be no formal service. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Special thanks to Dr. Terry Simpson & Sue, Dr. Avanessian & staff at RIH Cancer Unit, as well as everyone at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home. Your help and support through Mom?s illness was truly appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kamloops Hospice Association, 72 Whiteshield Crescent S. Kamloops V2E 2S9. Cremation arrangements in care of Schoenings Funeral Service.
