Walter Wozniak Obituary

Born May 3, 1940, Wally died peacefully on January 4, 2007 at Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home with his 3 children and long time friend and law partner, Ken Walker at his side. Although cancer had taken its toll on his body, Wally refused to give up his sense of humour.

Wally, a lifelong resident of Kamloops, was a practical joker, an adequate golfer and in possession of a rapier wit...well, half anyway. He had a voracious appetite for reading...and for hot dogs. He will be remembered as a lawyer, an alderman, a coach (hockey, soccer, softball), a figure skating emcee and possibly the world?s least capable handyman, but mostly, as a father who raised his kids with humility, self-awareness and in an environment replete with humour. As a husband, he loved his wife (Janine) devoutly and has missed her deeply since her death in 2003.

He is also predeceased by his parents Mike and Nellie Wozniak.

Left to mourn are Wally?s 3 children, Deborah (James), Michael (Tara) and Natasha (Duncan); his grandchild Auden, sister Shirley Trites, in-laws Mel and Terry Pepper, sisters-in-law Jacquie (Larry) Gathercole and Christine (Dale) Braithwaite, nieces Robyn (Scott) Boehm, Lindsay Braithwaite; nephews Shane (Rachel) Gathercole, Levi and Josh Braithwaite; long time law partner Ken (Shirley) Walker, friend from grade one Dave (Donna) Gillespie and many special friends and colleagues.

As ?Dad? he will be missed each and every day and...even more so during the playoffs.

Pastor Don Maione will conduct the memorial service at Calvary Community Church, 1205 Rogers Way, on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 2:00 pm.

If friends desire, donations to Kamloops Hospice Association, 72 Whiteshield Crescent, South, Kamloops, B.C. V2E 2S9 in memory of Wally would be appreciated.
