NOKINSKY Iris Obituary

NOKINSKY, Iris - With great sadness, the family of the late Iris Nokinsky announce her passing at the Norquay Health Centre on September 13, 2023, at the age of 75 years. Iris Victoria (nee Beck) Nokinsky was born on October 15, 1947, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, to parents George and Annie (Nowitski) Beck. She grew up on the family farm near Wroxton, Saskatchewan. Iris attended a country school (Loyal School) and took high school by correspondence. Iris married Vern Nokinsky from Swan Plain on May 20, 1967, and they began their married life in Wroxton, where they were blessed with two children, Ambrose and Beverly. In 1971, Iris and Vern moved to Swan Plain to continue to farm the land they took over from Vern's parents. In 1990, Iris first became a grandma, with the arrival of Amy, followed by Brett, Carla, and Chastin. In 1995, Iris and Vern started a hunting/guiding enterprise, Cutarm Outfitters, which they ran for 11 years. In 2011, Iris and Vern moved from the farm to Norquay. Iris was an active part of many local activities including curling, church, and the NICE Centre. Iris could also be found fishing on many of the local lakes. Iris would love to teach cooking, canning, and baking to anyone who asked. There were many full bellies, pantries, and freezers because of her skills. She was one of the strongest and hard-working women you would ever meet. She loved to tease her family and friends and truly loved them all. Above all, she loved her Lord. Her faith and the peace she received from God was an inspiration to many and carried her through her battle with cancer. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but her legacy will also live on through them. Iris was predeceased by her husband, Vern; her parents, George and Ann Beck; sister, Diane Johnston and brother-in-law, Bob Johnston, parents-in-law, Stanley and Glenna Nokinsky; and her great nephew, Dillon Nokinsky. She is survived by her son, Ambrose (Lisa) Nokinsky and daughter, Beverly (Richard) Kovacs; grandchildren: Amy (Wyatt) Catley, Brett (Breana) Nokinsky, Carla and Chastin Kovacs; great-grandchildren: Elianna and Ethan Catley, Kaycee and Rosalee Nokinsky; sisters, Olga (Les) Dutka and Sonja (Ken) Filipowich; brothers, Harry Beck (Shelley) and Tony (Laura) Beck; and her brothers-in-law: Bernard (Jeanette) Nokinsky and Duncan (Leora) Nokinsky; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and many friends. A Public Visitation was held from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 18, 2023, and a Memorial Service celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2023, both from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Ivan Simko as Celebrant. Rite of Committal followed in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Norquay Health Centre Auxiliary or to the N.I.C.E. Centre, Norquay, SK, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Iris Nokinsky.
