Kenneth Swain Obituary

Kenneth Grenville Swain
June 2/1945 – June 29/ 2017
Ken Swain of Fort Saskatchewan Alberta passed away peacefully at the age of 72 surrounded by his loving family June 29/2017.Ken will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his loving wife of 50 years Joan; daughter Sheila Swain-Ginn (David), son Keith Swain and son Darryl Swain (Lisa); his pride and joy grandchildren Eric, Cody, Jordan, Ethan, Nolan, Jayna, and Lindsey. He will also be missed by sister and friend Patricia Johnson; as well as many dear family members and friends. He was predeceased by his mother and father Catherine and Grenville Swain, Father in-law Harold Cook, brother in-law Arthur Johnson and sister in-law Gordene Cook.
Ken was born June 2/1945 in Carman Manitoba. He grew up on the family farm and later moved to Winnipeg to further his education and to work. Married in 1966, he and Joan worked hard, then began to build their family in 1970, continuing in 1972 and completing in 1974. In 1976 Ken set his sights on the Alberta Oilboom and moved the family to Fort McMurray, Alberta working as a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic until 1986. Ken once again upgraded his education then eventually relocated to the Lac La Biche, Alberta region to work in the Pulp and Paper industry as a Lubrication Specialist until he retired. For retirement Ken and Joan headed out to Port Alberni, BC to the ocean where they bought a fishing boat and fished Salmon in the Port Alberni Inlet often for overnight or weekend trips with friends. They also started a new adventure by "snow birding" to Indio California and Yuma Arizona in the winters. While snowbirding Ken loved to pick fresh fruit, shop the local markets, entertain guests and keep his roadrunner friend well fed. In 2014, they left BC, to Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Ken passed his time by reading, gardening, canning, puttering around in the yard and garage, admiring his antique tractor collection, spending time in his den, travelling, fishing, and most of all caring about his family. He loved to be outside doing anything, whether it was filling his birdfeeders, walking around the yard, constructing something, or just briefly relaxing in the sun. Ken was a loving, generous and proud husband, father and grandfather and will be very sadly missed, but all the great memories will be held dearly in our hearts.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at the Sturgeon Community Hospital for all the care you gave Ken and his family.
