Cynthia Tyrrell-McMillan Obituary

(1964-2022)



Cyndie Louise Tyrrell-McMillan, a resident of Huntsville, ON, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2022, surrounded by her loving family in her 58th year after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on August 10, 1964, to Grant and Rhoda Tyrrell. She grew up in Fisherville with alarge family, including many foster siblings, which instilled in her a passion for helping vulnerable children and youth from an early age. After graduating from Niagara Christian Collegiate, she obtained her Bachelor of Social Work, followed by herMasters.

Cyndie is is survived by her husband Steve, son Jacob, daughters Amy and Jenna, grandson Luca and brothers Howard, Gerald, Kevin, William and David and niece Charlene Lovegrove, with whom she was especially close. She is predeceased by parents Grant & Rhoda Tyrrell and foster siblings Francis Gains, Jesse LeRay Lovegrove, Curt Crumb, Ruth Knight, and Barbara Knight. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Cyndie started her child welfare career at Peel CAS before moving to Family Youth and Child Services of Muskoka in 2001, where she held the position of Intake Manager.
Cyndie continued to expand her role at FYSC over the next ten years. In 2015 she became Director of Service for Child and Youth Mental Health, Children in Care and Resource programs at Simcoe Muskoka Child, Youth and Family Services. Cyndiewas a pillar of the community, holding leadership roles on critical provincial issues that worked to improve outcomes for children and youth in residential care.
A tireless advocate for vulnerable children and families, Cyndie held a passion for the rights and needs of children and youth in care and was a champion for the critical work of foster families. Cyndie's contributions have had a lasting impact that reached well beyond the Simcoe and Muskoka communities.

Cyndie loved spending time on the water boating with her family in the summers, snowmobiling in the winters and vacationing at their home in Florida. She was known for her infectious laugh that touched every corner of a room and her passion for helping others above all else.

A Celebration of Life was hosted by Simcoe Muskoka Child, Youth and Family Services on Friday, April 22, at the Active Living Centre in Huntsville, with many of the family attendings. There will also be a family graveside service at the Bethel Cemetery, Fisherville, at a later date.
