It is with much sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Robert Gilbert, 88, of Moncton, NB on Wednesday, March 16th, 2022.
"Papa", born in Reading, England, served four brief but memorable years as an aviation electrician with the RAF before immigrating to Canada in 1958. He had a long career with CP Express, and then a few years with the Toronto District School Board until retiring and moving to Huntsville, followed by five years in Moncton.
A highly disciplined yet gentle and playful soul, when he wasn't puttering in his work room or garden, he could be found enjoying time with his grandchildren, or relaxing by the pool on one of his cruises, always with a beer or ice cream in hand and definitely a smile on his face.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, step-children, nieces, nephews, their families, his extended family and friends, their pets and of course his soul mate and best friend, his wife, Marian. All of whom loved him and will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his parents and siblings.
By Robert's request there will be no funeral. Donations can be made to Hillside View Special Care Home Inc., 560 Front Mountain Road, Moncton, NB, E1G 3H3 or Friends of the Moncton Hospital.
In honour of "Papa", raise a glass of your favourite beer and say "here's to the girl that lives on the hill..."
Arrangements are in the care of Salisbury Funeral Home (372-4800).
