William Earnest "Bill" Smith obituary

William Smith Obituary

Sadly, on Monday, May 22, 2023, Bill succumbed to his injuries as a result of an accident on Friday, May 19, 2023. He passed peacefully surrounded by his children and grandchildren, who all take comfort in knowing he is now finally reunited with his sweetheart and love, his late wife Sherry (Stremos) Smith.
Born on October 31, 1940, and raised in the East end of Toronto with his late parents, Violet (nee) Cook and Albert Smith and his three surviving sisters, Jackie (late Norm Taylor), Dianne (Bob Elliott) and little sister Helen (John Cook) He remained close with all three sisters to the end.
Bill will be greatly missed by the many friends in his adopted hometown of Gravenhurst where he settled with wife Sherry in 2005, allowing more time with his childhood friend the late Jim Marvin, and his partner Chris.
Bill became active in the community through the Gravenhurst United Church where he recently took over the Financial Officer duties, as well as the Trinity Book Club, where he thoroughly enjoyed the debate and discussions of theology (which normally carried over to the local Pub), and regular activities at the Seniors Centre with his companion Eleanor (Ellie) Douglas. A special thank you from the whole family to Ellie for the love and companionship given to Bill the last few years of his time. It's often said "a person comes into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime", and it can be said that Ellie fit all three categories.
Bill's sense of humour and gentleness will be greatly missed by his daughter Kelly (partner Dave) and her sons Marc and Alex, and son Jeff, (wife Julia), and children Ryan, Alyssa, Jaeden and Jessica.
With Bills long standing passion for antique boats, it's the family's intention to take his ashes for a final tour on the Winona prior to internment at Mickel Memorial Cemetery, (date to be announced).
Cremation arrangements entrusted to Cottage Country Cremation (55 Ann St. Bracebridge, ON.) Donations in lieu of flowers appreciated to Alzheimer's Society of Canada, or Canadian Mental Health Association.

My deepest sympathy to Eleanor and to Bill's family. I have great memories of Bill and Eleanor when they used to come to Muskoka Kia for service. His sense of humour always putting smiles on everyone's faces and it was always a pleasure chatting it up with them as they became more and more like extended family than customer's of mine. RIP Bill and until we all meet again in the sky. You will be missed dearly. Big Hugs.

I am deeply saddened my dear and closest friend for the past 4 1/2 years. Bill and I spent almost every day being together in one way or another. We went to the Srs. club three times a week, and spent weekends together going shopping hanging out at the wharf and going to Church, and sharing TV time together. Life was wonderful with Bill and I will always remember his kind and loving ways. R.I.P. dearest.

Bill was my brother-in-law and I first met him when was 9.
Over the years Bill and I has a variety of contacts, social, business as well as political although usually our views on politics were on the same wavelength.Bill was a very ambitious hard working guy and not afraid of any challenge. He always talked of his grandchildren and how proud he was of them all.I think he felt they were he greatest accomplishment even though he did agree Kelly and Jeff were party to the program.Miss you Bill you gave it a hell of a ride!!
Love
Bob

I'll miss him every day... especially the texts waiting for me from 4:00 am asking "you up?". We were best friends, and I was very lucky to have that.
For all who knew Bill, you knew his sense of humor and light hearted demeanor. Both Kelly and I grew into who we are with no small influence of that humor....I do think we're funnier tho! I know that trait, however twisted and sometimes inappropriate, has helped us both and our kids get through this with our closeness and laughter, outweighing the grief and sadness.
Rest in Peace and happiness Dad, we love you.
