Donald MacDonell Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Donald Alfred Joseph MacDonell on January 19, 2021, Donald was in his 70th year, born June 7, 1950. Loving Husband of Cheryl MacDonell, son-in-law of Vern and Hilda Hamilton. Predeceased by his parents Arthur and Flossie MacDonell. Loving brother of Michael, Paul (Diana), Stephen (Wendy), Tom (Melody) and Anne Marie (Torry). Brother-in-law to Nancy Kehoe (Pat). Loving Step-father to Ashley and Courtney. Loving uncle to Mark, Corey, Jenna, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Cole, Connor, Chelsey, Kristen and Allyson. Loving grandfather (Popadopolous) to Parker, Payson and Maylee. Great-uncle to Raelynn, Maya, Jackson, Jase and Jade. Donald is a former employee of GM Canada, he was actively involved in baseball and loved to "play the ponies at the track". He will be missed greatly by his many friends. Due to Covid-19 a celebration of life will be held at a later date. The day God took you home A million times We needed you A million times we cried, If love alone Could have saved you You never would have died. In life we loved you dearly; In death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a space, Where no one can ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you didn't go alone Part of us went with you, The day God took you home.

I was a great friend of Don during the late 60's. We started at the Empress Hotel in the summer of 1966 both working for a $1.00 an hour. Picking tobacco with Don in 1968 near Tilsonberg, Ontario was one of many ventures which we shared together as we grew into young men. At Landsdown Park on Saturday night, we would hang together near the finish line. Needless to say, our language got progressively worse as the ponies entered the home stretch! Although many other stories of Don and I are still fresh in my mind, easy to see why I have thought of my great friend from the past many times over the years. May his great soul rest in peace....Sean O'Brien [email protected] 914 960 6365
