Georgina McKEW Obituary

1938-2022
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the recent passing of Georgina McKew. Our beloved "Georgie" passed away peacefully on October 16, 2022 after a short battle with cancer at her home in the Kawartha Retirement Residences. She was loved by so many and her vibrancy and warmth will be missed in our family and community. Georgie was born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1938.

Georgie was incredibly caring by nature and tirelessly volunteered her time at Ross Memorial Hospital as a greeter and in Palliative care. She drove cancer patients to their appointments for many years and made meals for Community Care. That only scratches the surface of the many things Georgie did for others.

Georgie is predeceased by her loving husband Norman "Normie" McKew. She was a wonderful Godmother to Erin Bennett, Lauren Snelgrove and Erica Darnborough. She loved her godchildren, and then their children, as if they were her own.

Rest in peace dear Georgie. You will be missed by all who had the greatest fortune of knowing you. You showed all of us how to be a good human.

A funeral for Georgina McKew will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Anglican Church in Bobcaygeon, with interment to follow at Verulam Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ross Memorial Hospital and the Cancer Society. Donations and condolences may be made by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES- Monk Chapel, 6 Helen Street, Bobcaygeon, online at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-738-3222.

I´m truly sorry for your loss. I saw a poster of her up in RMH and finally stopped to read it. I was sad to see that she had been gone for some time. Again, I´m truly sorry.

Georgie was always such a nice person and I always enjoyed seeing her when I was on shift. Volunteers make such a difference in the way things run at RMH. Thank you for all you did for everyone Georgie!

Georgie was a beloved member of the Ross Memorial Hospital family for many years. As a volunteer on the Information Desk in the main lobby, it was her smiling face that welcomed patients and visitors and her kind help that made their time in hospital a little less worrisome. Georgie always described the hospital team as her 'second family'. She knew everyone by name and would bake shortbread to share her love of the holidays. Giving was in her nature. We were so lucky to have those years with her and will always remember her fondly.
