SZEGO, Gigi passed away peacefully on February 10, 2019, in St. John's, NL. Predeceased by her parents, her cherished sister Zsuzsa Puchner, and second husband Tibor Szego. Survived by her daughter, Kati; stepchildren Ron, Bill, Jill and Gary; grandchildren Terri, Tim, Paul, Billie, Kathleen, Adam, Bruce and Mark; twelve great-grandchildren; and niece, Jutka Kiczenko. Born in 1929 in her beloved Budapest, Gigi (Gizi to some) fled Hungary in 1956, creating a new life in Canada. A consummate hostess who was renowned for her cooking, Gigi had a relentless work ethic, a love of learning and reading, a fine wit, and a passion for bridge, sports, and all manner of good fun. Shaped by experiences of WWII and Soviet communism, Gigi was an abiding pacifist who relished her freedom. Elegant, courageous, and determined, she took exceptionally good care of others. Kati wishes to acknowledge Gail Szego's kindnesses, Jutka Szametz's loyal friendship, and the superb care offered by St. John's medical practitioners. Donations in Gigi's name may be made to The Leprosy Mission Canada, Canadian Hard of Hearing Association, or the
charity of your choice. A celebration of Gigi's life will be held in Lindsay in the spring.
