Michael Gick Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Francis Gick on Friday, May 13, 2022, at age 70, after a short battle with cancer. Michael was born in Town of Mount Royal in 1951 to John Benedict Gick and Frances Eleanor Hayes. Michael spent over 40 years as a family and youth social worker - mostly at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. He also volunteered actively in the community, dedicating his time to improving services and opportunities for children and youth in the Peterborough region. He loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren, taking care of his farm, and antiquing. Michael is survived by his wife Mary Tighe, his former spouse Peggy Cyr, his children Karla George, David Gick (Briana), and Charlotte Gick; his grandchildren Rosalie, Misha, Tommy, Matthew, and Adam; as well as siblings Linda Armitage (Barry), Sheila Gick (Frank), and Kevin Gick (Colleen). He is also survived by his extended family Philip Tighe (Laura) and their children Charlie John and Maisie, and Brian Tighe (Erica), and their daughter Wynn. A celebration of life will be held at Ashburnham Funeral Home & Reception Centre - 840 Armour Road, Peterborough - on Wednesday, May 25th from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Peterborough Youth Services, ALUS, or Ontario Farmland Trust.
