Fondly known as Sam or Sammy he is survived by his wife of 38 years, Betty Khattab (Plaunt) and his daughters Nadia (Andrew Beatson) and Jenna (Connor Wilson). Samir was the youngest of 9 siblings and immigrated to Canada in September 1974. In Cairo, Samir is survived by two loving sisters, Etidal and Wafaa, who were his best friends. He was also a dear brother-in-law and friend to Doug Plaunt and Carol Findlay-Lindsay and Donna and Gregg Tamiln. Sam was an avid sports enthusiast and devoted to his faith. He was an active member and mentor to many at the Courtice Mosque and Islamic community in Durham Region and Clarington. During his illness, he gave back to others as a teacher with the LHIN (Chronic Pain Workshop), and as a moderator for the Men's Support Group at Hearth Place. Sam lived a fulfilling life and wouldn't want his family and friends to mourn his passing but to celebrate his life. Smooth Sailing Sammy! You'll never walk alone!

I haven't seen Sam in a couple of years where he showed up to Volleyball in Newcastle where we talked for about an hour about what he had been through, in particular the success he was having with cbd oil. I just found out about this and saddened by the news of Sam's passing. We were tennis partners and had won a couple of tournaments together simply because of his tennis skills. He was such a gentleman on and off the court. My sincere condolences to his family.

My deepest condolences to Sam´s family. So sorry to hear of his passing. He was a lovely man and I really enjoyed his company on the tennis courts. He made the game seem very easy.
