Robert Watson Obituary

The Watson family wishes to celebrate the life and legacy of Bob Watson. It is with saddened hearts that we announce his passing at age 70 on Tuesday, January 19th, 2021, after a very courageous two year battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Bob's greatest joy and fulfillment in life was his role as husband, dad and papa. He led a close, loving and loyal family. He showed us the importance of putting others first, how far a listening ear or helping hand can really go, and how a simple smile can often brighten even the gloomiest of days. He always put others first and was happiest when the whole gang gathered for any occasion! As Manager of Atlas Steels Credit Union, and eventually CEO of PenFinancial Credit Union, Bob will be remembered for his indomitable spirit, compassion and dedication to his local community. A rare gem in the business world, he was respected and loved by many. Known as Wobbly to his friends, Bob was fortunate to have shared life's adventures with many longtime buddies who have certainly become a chosen second family. It was these bonds and friendships where Bob learned to embrace and embody the joys of remaining eternally young at heart. We know that Bob touched the lives of so many and his greatest wish was that we remember him for the joy, laughter and good times shared. He will continue to live on through our stories and memories of him. We would love for you all to please share these and any photos and bestowed nicknames at www.cudneyfuneralhome.com. Forever cherished, loved and remembered by his wife, Mary (Hun), daughters Amy (Ames; Riles and Zo), Michaela (Mick; Jonny, Rasc, Jo-el, Isla, MO, Hannah & Rasc2), Shannon (Shanny; Dan, Em and O) and son Andrew (and Scary). Bob will also be missed by his sisters, Hope and Martha, brother Tom, nieces, nephew, and extended family. Bob's Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when our world and weather improve. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honour to the Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca "Happy Trails to you, until we meet again". "Be kind to others and they will be kind to you" "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4"

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Bob during his time on the Niagara College Foundation Board of Directors. Bob was truly one of the nicest people I have ever encountered, friendly, warm, generous, and kind. I am so sorry for your loss and hope you will be comforted by the fact that Bob was a beloved member of the community and will be fondly remembered.

My brothers and I met Bob, through our dad, through the Credit Union, when we were just little (more than 25 years ago).

We will never forget his smile and warm greetings. As a child, it made going to the bank a fun excursion. There was definitely something heart warming about Bob. He will be missed, even by those who barely knew him.

Our deepest condolences go to his family and friends.

To the entire Watson family and friends, please accept Sandy's and my condolences in your loss. We've known Bob in the 90's and beyond only though the credit union system. If we had lived closer he'd have been a dear friend. The man we got to know was so kind, generous and helpful - especially so with me in my early days of running a small credit union. As I got to know him better it was quickly apparent that he was loved and respected by every credit union professional he had ever met. I always looked forward to seeing him at provincial and national events and enjoyed his company immensely. I am a far better man for having known him.

Mary and family. I’m so very sorry for your loss. I knew Bob through the credit union system from many years ago. I had not seen him in quite some time but remember him well. He was very supportive to me and the credit union I worked for. Always a smile and a helping hand.

I miss my brother Bob in ways that not even words can understand. This is the most difficult loss I have experienced. Perhaps its because you were the constant source of security for us all. You will be missed deeply, unfathomably, senseless and terribly. I pray Psalm147:3 He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away

On behalf of the Ontario Credit Union Board of Directors I extend condolences to the family. We were sad to hear of Bob's passing. On a personal note, I met Bob in my early days with OCUF. He invited me to a PenFinancial golf tournament and put me in his foursome. We laughed so hard it was hard to play. Bob was easy to like and respect. His compassion for others, his integrity and his broad smile will be permanently etched in many people's memories. Rest in peace Bob.
