Alan Beer Obituary

Beer, Alan Grant Joseph - Alan peacefully passed away on March 21, 2025 with his wife at his side. He will always be lovingly remembered by his fiercely cherished family, wife Sharen (Howell) Beer, children Teigan, Luke and Cody Beer, daughters-in-law Keira Beer & Sarah Canning, grandchildren Nicholas & Sarah Carruthers, Hudson Beer and Ila & Olivia Beer.

Born in Princeton on August 12, 1953, as a pre-teen he landed in North Vancouver via Youbou, Lake Cowichan and Britannia Beach. He attended Ridgeway, North Van High and Carson Graham before venturing off to Terrace for his initial career with A&W. That was closely followed by a multi-year adventure working in pubs in Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside in the Lake District of England, where he learned to send flambé dishes up a dumb-waiter without setting it on fire. Upon his return to North Van he continued his food services career path with both A&W and The Hudson Bay.

It was at A&W that Alan met Sharen. They were friends for 5 years before embarking on a lifetime together. As soon as they knew they were to become parents, Alan showed his unwavering devotion to family by seeking out a career driving for Metro Transit so he could work nights to be home with his precious baby while Sharen worked. It was so much fun, they did it again. Twice!

Alan made many wonderful friends among his co-workers during his 35+ years with BC Transit. He played ball on the N Van Depot's team for many years and always looked forward to Funstastic Tournament in Vernon every summer.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Sat June 21st from 1:00 - 3:30pm in the Community Room of Mountain Estates townhouse complex (next to the pool) at 1960 Rufus Dr., N Van and we invite friends, new and old, to come and maybe share a story or 2. The venue is also accessible via the 1910 & 1930 Cedar Village Crescent entrances.

An email to [email protected] or Facebook Messenger note to Sharen Howell Beer would be appreciated from potential attendees for refreshment planning.

I am sorry to hear about Alan, Sharen. I hope you and the boys and Teigan are coping. It's mind boggling to think of Luke and Cody all grown up with their own families. I just want to send a heartfelt hug your way. Take care.

Alan was a genuinely lovely man. I can't remember a time when he raised his voice or seemed out of sorts. Whenever we were together he always had a smile on his face and a chuckle at the ready. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Alan was my trusted sidekick for quite a few years... we had many fine adventures and I knew I could always count on Alan to keep things on the level. Quiet strength coupled with a fine sense of humor made Alan one of the best... I shall miss him greatly..
