Anna-Maria MARCHETTI Obituary

MARCHETTI, Anna-Maria Halenar
October 4, 1969 - December 31, 2023

We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved Anna-Maria. After a very long battle with lymphoma she is now resting and waiting for us in a better place. Anna-Maria is survived by her husband Matt, her son Luke, daughter Sonia Marchetti and brother Mario Halenar.

Anna was a North Vancouver resident her whole life and worked as an RN at Lions Gate Hospital, Evergreen House and Inglewood Care Centre during her career. She attended Simon Fraser University and BCIT, she also taught English abroad in Slovakia and Japan. Of the many roles she played in her life, daughter, sister, nurse, wife, being a mother was her favorite. Watching her with them was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and experienced. She was loving, kind, gentle, understanding, compassionate and they always were number one in her thoughts and actions. Her devotion to them was selfless and amazing.

Anna loved all things furry. She had many cats, dogs and hamsters and such. Out of them all cats were her favorite. She adored kitties. She loved travelling, creating pottery, shopping, and her family.

In 2014 Anna was diagnosed with lymphoma and for the last 9 and a half years I watched her fight and soldier on in the face of adversity. She was a warrior in every sense of the word. Never have I ever witnessed someone battle such insurmountable odds and keep on coming back from setbacks and obstacles almost as if to say to cancer itself "What more you got?" She fought long and hard and I am and will always be amazed at her resilience and tenacity. She gave everything she could for so long for which the kids, and I, and all her friends and family are eternally grateful. May we all have such courage and be able to summon such power when faced with our own obstacles in life.

Anna, I love, have loved and will always love you for everything you have shown me, taught me and for providing me with a wonderful life, a wonderful wife and 2 fantastic children. May you finally get the rest you deserve and I know somewhere, sometime our souls will meet again.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 16 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, 2725 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver, BC. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to BC Cancer Research Centre.

I am deeply sorry to hear of your loss Matt, Luke, Sonia and Mario. I was fortunate enough to meet Anna during our family camping trip at Porteau Cove a few summers ago. She brought out some chocolate covered rice cakes which I enjoyed. I was so touched when she sent us over a few packages shortly after. Kindness, generosity, and strength are a few words that I remember of Anna. May your memories of Anna comfort your family.

Anna and I were kindred souls. We loved a good bargain or even better, free stuff. When I had to move she became a frequent visitor and I think if I came to your house, I'd feel right at home. I let her adopt my hummingbird collections, because she always reminded me of a hummingbird, always flitting around, here and there, on the go. I will miss her smile. So unfair.

I'm so terribly sorry to hear of Anna-Marie's passing. She was always willing to stop and talk if I saw her walking down the street and was making sure that I was okay and if there was anything I needed. My heart goes out to Matt, Luke and Sonia.

Anna showed kindness and generosity like no other. She will always be our secret Santa with the spontaneous little gifts! Her love for animals always showed the gentle, compassionate side she had. All the trademarks of a beautiful human being. She touched so many with her kindness, we will miss her. Sending my love to Matt, Luke, Sonia.

Dear Hanka, I had a privilige to meet you a long time ago in Slovakia and I admired you from the very first moment. Your kindness and compassion, lovely smile, courage and positivity... You were wise and beautiful and you touched all our hearts immediately. I was lucky to have you as my guide in Vancouver and was honoured to be yours and Matt's guide in Prague in return. You'll be missed so much in Slovakia. Dear Matt, Luke, Sonia, I am very sorry for your loss.

Sending love to you and the kids. Anna was such a blessing, so selfless, kind, generous and just an amazing human being. I had the pleasure of working with her, but got closer with her afterwards, mainly through Facebook! She would drop little surprises to my kids randomly, so in our home she was known as Secret Santa! She always loved seeing the smiles the goodies brought my kids. Just a reflection of her kind, giving heart. She will be missed.

During our first counselling session on August 18th, I felt immediately connected to Anna-Maria as she spoke of her love and concern for her family. Her incredible humor, warmth, and wit made me want to talk with her for hours.
Before our next session, I learned that Anna was admitted to 7West where I continued to follow her until reaching hospice where she was honored and celebrated as a friend, wife, sister, nurse, and an incredible role model to her children, whom she clearly cherished. It was a true privilege to journey with her through some pretty dark days as well as lots of laughter and stories of kids we had in common. Thank you for enriching my life Anna, I will never forget you. May you Rest in Peace. Xx

My girlfriend at that time and myself met Matt and Anna at Bunsen Lake and rented canoes. We paddled across the lake, had a picnic lunch, went swimming, and shared time on a beautiful summer day. I am so sorry for your loss Matt, and for your whole family, but I'm sure we can keep her spirit alive here with such fond memories.

Anna was the most loving of souls. I had the pleasure of meeting her when our kids were in preschool together. They became best buddies so Anna and I also bonded and I had the opportunity to get to know this lovely lady. She had the most open and welcoming nature. She made you feel at home around her and gave the most lovely, all encompassing hugs. We were very lucky to know you and you family Anna. Thank you for being part of our lives.
