Brian Welch Obituary
Brian passed away suddenly at home on January 5, 2026, at the age of 73.
Brian was born in Comox, BC, and spent his early years in Qualicum, BC, with happy summers at the family cabin on Spider Lake. It was there that he found his lifelong passion for water skiing.
As a young adult, Brian worked at the family-owned Olympic Forest Products before embarking on a multiple-year career as a commercial fisherman on the BC West Coast.
In 1984, Brian returned to the family business, proudly representing the fourth generation. Brian rose through the ranks to be appointed President of Olympic Forest Products and Olympic Log Sort, with father Bruce taking the role of Chair. Brian continued as President until his untimely death. Following generational family tradition, he served on the TLA board and was well respected within the industry.
Brian was a man who loved his family and cherished his friendships. A kind, gentle, and generous man who was always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed him.
Brian was predeceased by his mother, Pamela Birch (nee Robinson), and his sister Valerie. He is survived by his loving wife Julie, adored daughter Chelsea, and son-in-law Ryan. He is also survived by his father, Bruce; stepmother Lis; brothers Brad, Jack, and Adam; sister Pam; and his many nieces and nephews.
Brian will be forever loved and missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
