It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ed Barnes, peacefully in his sleep, at Lions' Gate Hospital. Ed had been residing at Berkley Care Centre for the past several years and the family would like express their heartfelt gratitude for the level of care and compassion that the staff provided to Ed in his years there.
Ed is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lee, their four children, Scott (Lys), Tiffany (Bert), Tyler (Laura) and Sean (Barb) and his beloved grandchildren, Damien, Ethan, Jayda, Maddie, Jack and Noah who were the lights of his life.
Born in Vancouver, BC Ed was a member of the Boy Scouts of Canada for many years and earned the distinction of Queen's Scout, an accomplishment of which he was very
proud. In his later years he was a leader with the organization while his children were members.
He also was an active member of the deMolay organization when in high school. Ed attended UBC, graduated with a BCom and LLB and practiced law for many years with Russell and DuMoulin and his own private practice. Ed also attended the Justice Institute of British Columbia and completed courses in Arbitration and Mediation.
Ed was very generous with his time and legal expertise assisting Downtown East Side residents through the Union Gospel Mission. He also sat on many boards and
committees including St. Judes Home, North Vancouver District Grants Committee and was a Past President of the Country Music Association.
Ed will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm on Saturday, March 14th 2026 at Berkley Care Centre, 2444 Burr Place, North Vancouver, B.C.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations in Ed's memory be made to the Union Gospel Mission or a
Charity of Your Choice.
