Daphne CUE Obituary
CUE, Daphne Jane (nee MacRae)
January 15, 1930, sadly left us
on October 21, 2024, at 94.
Daphne (Mom) was born in Vancouver but spent all of her life in West Vancouver where she lived as a young child - firstly at the edge of the mountain forest on Mathers Avenue and 21st; then as a teenager at the corner of Nelson Avenue and 24th, and for nearly 60 years in the family home - a beautiful garden cottage on Rose Crescent just steps away from Sandy Cove Beach.
Mom attended Pauline Johnson Elementary and West Vancouver Secondary School (graduating in 1948) and in 1954 married fellow West Vancouver native Victor Cue. She was a caring and supportive mother to Diana (Jim) Gostling, Mary (Chris) Lapointe and Jennifer (Antonio) Cue-Tartaglione as well as grandmother to Jessica and Lisa Gostling, Eleonora Tartaglione and Matthew Lapointe.
Mom was truly one-of-a-kind - a creative, intelligent, and communicative person who loved books of all kinds as well as gardening, sewing, baking, opera, cats, stimulating conversation and the laughter and fun she shared with good friends. She was also a consummate party "girl" who spent so many Saturday afternoons hosting or attending "ladies' luncheons" and Sandy Cove beach parties.
Mom is at peace now and in the loving company of our Dad and the good friends who predeceased her including her lifelong best friend and beloved sister Catherine (Bunny) LaRoche. We miss her but we know that if there is a heaven she is there and she is having a good time. We will continue to celebrate her life and her example for the rest of our own lives.
Our deep gratitude goes to the caring and compassionate staff at Evergreen House and Lions Gate Hospital, where she spent her last few months, and to Emma Lumio, who was Mom's loyal and loving caregiver and friend during the last 8 years.
