TOIGO, Elizabeth Emily
October 25, 1933 - September 24, 2021

Elizabeth Toigo was born October 25, 1933 at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver BC, to Carl and Maud Rohwer. At an early age, Elizabeth and her family moved to Powell River, where Carl got a job at the pulp and paper mill and where Elizabeth would marry her high school sweetheart, Peter C. Toigo. An exceptional entrepreneur, Peter eventually moved his family to the Lower Mainland, settling in Tsawwassen in 1964. As the family grew, so did Peter's business portfolio: He established Shato Holdings, a real estate development company, in 1969, and added the restaurant chain White Spot in the early eighties. Due to Peter's untimely passing in 1993, Elizabeth became Chairperson of Shato. Under her guidance, the business has continued to thrive to the present day.

Elizabeth was very philanthropic, a major donor to many causes around Vancouver and Delta, including the Delta Hospital Foundation. But she avoided the spotlight, in her own way preferring to do things for others. She kept her growing family stocked with her legendary chocolate chip cookies and, every year, made a special point of taking each of her many grandchildren Christmas shopping. Christmas Day was always a special time, with the extended family gathered around the enormous dining room table at her house.

Elizabeth was extremely proud of all of her children and grandkids and lived for their moments together. She loved to travel with friends and family, preferably by car (she preferred not to fly), and made several runs down the I-5 to her home in Rancho Mirage. From there, she was just a short trip to one of her favourite places - Disneyland -which she visited many times. She loved being there with family, and the grandkids loved being there with Gramma. She used to say that when she passed on, she wanted to come back as one of the tiny Disney sparrows that are found everywhere in the park.

Elizabeth was a huge fan of the Vancouver Giants; watching them win the Memorial Cup in 2007 was one of her all-time highlights. She loved The Nutcracker, The Phantom of the Opera, high tea at the Empress on Vancouver Island, and the glorious rose garden behind her home.

Elizabeth will be remembered by her 6 children and spouses Louise Greene, Wendy Toigo, Peter and Lesley Toigo, Roy and Monica Toigo, Ron and Michele Toigo, Rick Toigo, her 15 grandchildren, and her 14 great grandchildren. And her many friends who knew her as an extraordinarily kind, caring, generous, selfless person with a wonderful sense of humour.

Her grace and class, her support and encouragement,
her constant positivity, and above all, her unconditional love,
helped shape her family's lives for the better.

As she would always say when you left or the end of a phone call,
""Bye for Now""
