Gregory Argent Obituary

Our son, Greg, died suddenly and unexpectedly in Toronto on November 12. His parents, Jan and Al, his sister Adrienne and her partner Dave Smith, and Christine, Greg's beloved wife, are left with a huge void in their lives.

Greg was born in Burlington, Ontario, and moved to North Vancouver with his family in 1976. He attended Seymour Heights Elementary School and graduated from Windsor High School with the class of 1992. He then decided, out of curiosity, to enrol in the Culinary Arts Program at Vancouver City College.

Upon graduation, this curiosity about food led him to the kitchens of The Bacchus Room at the Wedgewood hotel and The Irish Heather, his first stint as a head chef.

After moving to Toronto, he worked at several popular restaurants, among them Rain, Forte, Cru and the Black Angus Steak House.

During these years, he had the opportunity to appear on The Food Network shows, "Iron Chef" and "Made to Order."

Some of the memories that will help fill the void in our lives left by his sudden death include Greg and Christine's wedding on the Isle of Arran in Scotland. This was a beautiful experience full of kilts, haggis poutine (Greg's creation) and dancing on this beautiful island under incredibly blue skies. Christine and Greg were so happy during those wonderful days.

Greg loved rock and roll music. He played a very good bass in a rock group as a teenager. Music accompanied everything he did. He was always thumping out a baseline, singing along to a medley, dancing in his kitchen, driving in his car. There was a playlist that accompanied him everywhere: The Clash, The Specials, Graham Parsons, The Who, the list goes on.

Remembering Greg's generosity and kindness will help us fill the emptiness created by his absence. He cared about everyone he met, even those he did not know well. His kindness to his Aunt Carol, who was on her Alzheimer's journey, made her last days joyful.

He loved fishing, and though he caught few, he always had his fishing gear in his car in case he drove past a lake or stream, he could drop a line into.

Greg lived his life as a verb-a-maker, a creator, and a giver of care and kindness. This is the essence of Greg – his Gregness.

The words used to describe Greg are perfect. We met in highschool via mutual friends (Andrew Coping, Jason Close..) a true genuine and kind human.
Hold all his beautiful memories close in your hearts. A special soul indeed

Greg was an extraordinary human. Goodness is one of the hardest things to describe. It lives in the heart and is almost impossible to put into words. Greg was a good person. A bright light. He will live in my heart forever. I´m lucky to have known him.

He showed me how to make mussels and fries one beautiful day in Toronto. We had a blast. I can still hear his laughter.

Jan, Al, Adrienne and Christine, my deepest sympathy. Again, words feel inadequate. Sending strength. Greg will never be forgotten.
