Helmut HOELLER Obituary

HOELLER, Helmut
May 14, 1935 - July 14, 2024

With profound sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved father, Helmut Hoeller. He is survived by his two daughters, Yvonne and Gigi, and son-in-law Timofey.

Helmut was born in Düsseldorf, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1960. He came selling umbrellas in Montreal and Toronto, then moved to Vancouver establishing himself in the fashion industry.

He met his future wife on Vancouver's beaches and ski hills and they were married in 1964 when they established their permanent home in West Vancouver. They were married for 57 years.

As a successful entrepreneur in fashion imports, he and his wife became the first to import the bikini into Canada in the mid 1960s.

Helmut was very loved by his family as well as his friends, charming everyone with his corny sense of humour. He enjoyed hosting summer pool parties and dinners with friends.

Helmut was passionate about travel and globetrotted around the world to over 50 countries, making friends everywhere he went. Until the end, he cherished his friendships with the people he knew and those he had met on his adventures.

Helmut was a traveler, who has now taken his last trip ... to be lovingly reunited with his beautiful wife, Karin.

Helmut, the rock of the family, will be so very missed.

As requested, a Mass will be held at Christ The Redeemer on August 1st at 3pm, 599 Keith Road in West Vancouver. August 1st has been chosen, being the anniversary of Karin Hoeller's passing, to have them eternally reunited.

Helmut und I wher the very best friends in 1962 in Vancouver Canada, I tough him to ski as I was a ski instructor from Germany, we had lots of fun together and he visited me in the Yukon where I spent the summer on a goldrege, after I moved to Portland, Oregon he talked me into the importing of the bikini business and we went to Germany together on a buying trip, I very much enjoyed our friendship and will miss Helmut and Karin very much.

Our deepest sympathy to Helmut´s family. We met Helmut in St Martins on one of our many trips. We would reunite on other trips to the Caribbean. He was a delight to speak to and we will miss him when we return to St Martin.

Yvonne & Gigi,

I am so very sorry for your lose. I had the pleasure of meeting your parents when my Dad was here in BC, visiting from Ontario. My Dad and Mum met your parents on their annual trips to St. Maarten. My Dad wanted me to let you know how much he enjoyed chatting with them on the beach and how nice it was to visit with them at their home in West Van.

I hope that the sadness you are feeling now, soon turns to happy memories of your Dad.

Dearest Gigi and Yvonne, My deepest Condolences as you walked beside your Father getting ready for his last trip. I have had the pleasure of having your Father as a patient since 2006. Our appointments every two weeks gave me the gracious gift of learning of such a wonderful family he had. The trips he spent with Karin and the two of you were the highlight of his life. Most appointments were filled with how proud he was of his Yvonne and Gigi. The magnificent stories of Karin's amazing garden allowed me to imagine the home the two of them created for you all. I enjoyed hearing of all your family dive trips and all the trips abroad. As well as the pride he would speak of his daughters and all of their endeavours. I will miss our talks of him wanting to go through the latest Dancing with the Stars, Survivor, Amazing Race and the Bachelor shows. I would always make sure I had caught myself up before his next appointment so we could talk through it. As well, I do not think I will be able to eat Blueberries EVER without thinking of Helmut. Thank you for sharing your wonderful Dad with me for 16 years. I am sure your Mom and Dad are having a lovely dance by now or hitting the Celestial Slopes in the Sky. Again my thoughts are with you all. Regards. Grace
