Hunter MCALDUFF Obituary

MCALDUFF, Hunter Faith Hunter Faith McAlduff passed away peacefully on March 3rd - loved and supported by family and friends. Predeceased by her younger sister Chloe, Hunter is survived by her parents, Michael and Monica and younger brother Liam. Born May 19th, 1999, Hunter lived a short but engaging life, having a profound, positive, spiritual impact on all who met her. Forever the consummate little girl, she was the most comfortable in a dress and rarely wore jeans or pants, a girly girl to the core with a fashion style as unique as her personality. She was sometimes described as an old soul and exuded the intellect and curiosity of someone much older than her years. Hunter over- powered her life changing illness by proclaiming that heaven was her destination, this was only the journey. She proudly supported anyone who felt sorry for with the faithful proclamation "there is no disease in heaven, when I go there, I'll be my old self again!". She refused to let her MELAS disease impede her. Hunter was also a determined hostess, pre- planning parties to accommodate all that would attend. Drinks, food and attire were always paired with a theme, ranging from Egyptian to Princesses to The 70's and The Avengers to name a few. She loved to play the part, hostess and actress, friend and celebrity. Her smile was infectious, her resiliency with medical interactions brave, her character unique, Hunter was 'one of a kind'. She had at least 2 favorite pastimes, reading or being read to, and movies. She remembered details and could recite whole sections of movies, always in character. She reminded others of their biblical responsibilities, quoting scripture often as it was learnt through her Veggie Tales years. She had no qualms about sending a message to our pastor to remind him about what message to deliver. She encouraged all who worked with her, cared for her or befriended her, our little evangelist. Hunter's concern for the environment and endangered species (turtles being one) was part of her life mission. The other was fashion design and crafting. Hunter spent countless hours sketching dresses and outfits, while she still physically could. Our house was filled with projects, preplanned gifts for others: paintings, Hunter made Christmas crafts and dog treats. As a family we would like to thank our rather large caregiving and support team. This includes, but is not limited to our various caregivers (Squirrel and Banana especially), nurses, Drs, fellow believers, friends, travel companions and family - the caring people that guided and directed us to successfully keep Hunter at home. And to all the people that helped us to live one day at a time, but each to its fullest, without regret, without excuse. From the Make a Wish Foundation to BC Children's Hospital, Canuck Place, Lions Gate Christian Academy and North Shore Alliance Church, we experienced dedicated people that took the time to help and care. Special thanks to Dana for being a real Dr., and to the North Shore palliative team for their professional support. A celebration of life will take place in the future.

Our heartfelt condolences for your loss but a celebration for she is made whole again and with that our hearts fill with overwhelming joy for her.

We carry with us many fond memories from school years and at church ! Hunters intricate imagination was always something I adored about her! We’ll never forget the trip to the hospital when we brought her a shamrock milkshake to cheer her up! Instead she cheered us up. Told us all about being made new in heaven and that dying wasn’t something we should be sad about, she wasn’t! Definitely an evangelist heart and an old soul!

In church, the vision of Hunter dancing with dad during hymns will stay with us always. Grasp each joy within reach, you planted that in my heart.

Our Family sends our love,
