MacDONALD, James Michael
May 7, 1938 - November 9, 2024
Jim MacDonald was born in Ocean Falls, B.C. He grew up in post-Depression remote coastal BC towns (Ocean Falls, Tahsis, Port Mellon).
In the summer of 1954 Jim got a job marking the board for the Vancouver Stock Exchange. A year later he started at Hall Securities' trading department. Jim worked in the stock market until he retired in 1998. His interest in mining stocks led to prospecting and claims-staking trips throughout BC.
Jim and Carol (Miller) met while skiing on Hollyburn Mountain in West Vancouver and married in 1960. In 1968 they moved to West Vancouver where they raised their daughters.
In 1976 he purchased the MacDonald family farm on Pender Island. The home was built in 1894 by his great-grandfather. Summers and weekends were spent at the farm.
After Jim retired they built their lovely home on South Pender Island. During his retirement Jim continued to enjoy woodworking, prospecting, and golfing.
He had three daughters: Colleen (Paul), Bonnie, and Everest (Ben), grandchildren: Jojo, Steel, Sydney, Sóley and Waylon. Jim was predeceased by his brother Terry (Jacquie), and survived by brothers Don and Cam (Sharon).
Jim was always there for family and friends and is remembered for his consistent interest, kind words and thoughtful advice. His brilliant mind and outstanding memory made him a great conversationalist and engaging story-teller.
Foremost, Jim made the most out of each day. He led a rich life and no matter what he was involved in, it had his undivided attention. His was an exemplary life, lived to the fullest.
