James Menzies Obituary

CA (Scot.) CA, CPA (Can.)
James (Jim) Menzies peacefully passed on his own terms on October 14, 2025, at home. Born in December 1940 in Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland, to James and Isobella (nee McKay). Predeceased by wife, Sheena (nee Troup), his love of 65 years; survived by daughters, Susan (Jay) Timmerman and Katrina (Ian) Johnston and beloved grandchildren, Keir and Jill, sister Isobel (Fraser) Blackwood and family and his dearly loved cat, Bonnie. During his life, Jim strived to make a good life alongside Sheena, without whom he professed he could not have managed. Summer holidays in Aden and trips to Europe as a child helped develop a quest for adventure that led to a decision to go to Sierra Leone in his early working life. After seven years there, a growing family led Jim and Sheena to move to Canada, where they found their home, first in North Vancouver, then Kelowna and finally back to the North Shore again. He was very happy that his children and grandchildren are Canadians. Jim was a Partner with Campbell, Sharp, Nash and Field in Africa and, after a stint with Touche Ross (Deloitte), ran his own firm in Kelowna before becoming a Partner with Snowsell, Jennens and Carter, now MNP. Jim was President of the Caledonian Society of Sierra Leone and a member of the Freetown Rotary Club, followed by a stint as President of the Capri East Rotary in Kelowna, where he became a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also Treasurer of various nonprofits. Jim and Sheena loved their trips and cruises, including their times at their "cabin "in Kauai. Many Canadians were introduced to lamb and haggis through Jim and Sheena's efforts. At Jim's request, there will be no celebration of life. "The long day's task is done, and I must sleep."
