Janette Calder Obituary
After a lifetime of adventures, our mother and grandmother, Janette, has journeyed on.
Born in Glasgow to Robert and Janet Ritchie, Janette was an accomplished athlete and student, a proud graduate of Hutchie Grammar and then Glasgow University where she
completed a degree in geography while representing Scotland internationally in badminton.
She moved with her husband, David, and her young family, to Vancouver in 1967, where she thrived in all her favourite things: sports, travel, art, friendship, and family. She was an incredible correspondent, writing weekly to her sister Minette, her best friend Sybil, and lifelong pen pals Arlette and Gudrun.
She fostered community, as a coach, a teacher, and in her church. She has been surrounded in recent years with layers of care, thank you to Sunrise, Lions Gate Hospital, and most especially our sister, Leslie. Janette's final moments were spent listening to the Olympics, with her loves, and in her faith.
She will be lovingly missed by Gillian, Susan, Leslie, Stephanie, Uumati and a lifetime of friends.
We will honour her wishes with a gathering soon, until
then, love and kindness all.
Donations to the LGH Foundation gratefully received.
