Jessie JACKLIN Obituary

With love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Jessie Isabel Jacklin (née Bain) on January 28, 2025. She was born on December 23, 1931, to parents Gladys Mary Bain (née Cross) and James Alexander Bain in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone.

Jessie spent her early years in Curaçao and following the passing of her father, the family relocated to Nicaragua, and eventually settled in Kelowna, BC, where Jessie attended elementary school and graduated from Kelowna Secondary School. Jessie pursued her passion for teaching at the Provincial Normal School in Victoria, training as a primary school teacher. She began her career at Schou Street School in Burnaby before taking time to raise her family. Jessie later resumed her career as a substitute teacher in School District 44 (North Vancouver) and then as a full-time teacher at St. Francis de Sales School in Burnaby in the 1970s. She then spent the next couple of decades teaching Grade 3 at St. Anthony's School in West Vancouver. After retirement Jessie enjoyed volunteering at St. Edmund's Elementary School in North Vancouver. She left a lasting impact on countless young lives throughout her career.

Beyond her dedication to education, Jessie had a deep love for travel. Her adventurous spirit led her to explore the world, visiting the United Kingdom, Israel, Spain, Peru, and many destinations across Central America.

Jessie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Fredrick Laroy Jacklin, her sister Violet Howard, her brother Roderick Bain, and her son Dougie. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Winnie Robertson, daughter Kathy Todd (John), sons Greg, David, and Fred Jr. (Debra). She was a cherished grandmother to Tristan Jutras (Stephanie), Steph Sanford (Shane), and Alex Cole (Brock) and a proud great-grandmother to Theo and Levi. She will also be deeply missed by her dear friend Cathy Carter.

Jessie spent her final years at Little Mountain Place in Vancouver, where she received compassionate care, and particularly enjoyed music therapy. Her family is immensely grateful to the staff for their kindness and support.

Jessie will be remembered for her dedication to teaching, her adventurous spirit, and the love she shared with her family and friends. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 8 at 11:00 am at St. Edmund's Roman Catholic Parish (545 Mahon Avenue, North Vancouver, BC).

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jessie's memory may be made to St. Edmund's School, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or a Charity of Your Choice.

I have fond memories of the years we taught in side by side classrooms at St. Francis de Sales School. We shared many joyful experiences and a few unhappy ones, but we were bound in friendship by our shared love for teaching and for the children in our care. Rest in peace dear Jessie.
