John HUNT Obituary
Dr. John A. Hunt, age 91, passed away at Inglewood Private Hospital in West Vancouver on June 2, 2018.
He is lovingly remembered by his dear wife, Eileen (Richardson), children Drew (Sheri), Tim (Amanda), and Cath (Doug), step-children Carole (Rod) and Diane, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his first wife, Jane (nee Nightingale). John and Jane and their family came from England in 1956 to start a new life in Canada. John became a well-known and highly-respected physician. He was a pioneer in the field of diabetes: he started the still-operating Camp Kakhamela (First Nation word for ‘the hunt’) for diabetic children in 1962, served as president of the CDA from 1964-66, established the Diabetes Day Centre at LGH--the first of its kind in North America--and was involved throughout his career in clinical research and being a presenter at numerous international diabetes conferences. He was awarded the first-ever Charles Best Award for clinical excellence.
Following Jane’s passing, John and Eileen enjoyed a short but magical 16 years of marriage filled with joy, love, laughter, and fun. They travelled extensively, creating wonderful memories that Eileen will always treasure.
The family gratefully thanks Dr. Nigel Walton for his attentiveness and expertise, and all the staff at Inglewood Private Hospital for their wonderful efforts in the care and comfort of John.
A memorial service will be held at West Vancouver United Church, 20th and Esquimalt in West Vancouver, on Wednesday, June 20, at 11:00 am.

To the family of John Hunt, such a kind man who arrived at the hospital when our son was born. Dr. Hunt came to the bedside as if he delivered the baby. One of the last babies and patient experiences for this gentle soul at LGH. He was an highly recognized physician that connected specialists world wide. What a man, and what a legacy he created for so many through his findings.
