John passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital with his family present. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, (married in 1962), and his three children, Doug (Jimei), Mark (Jill), and Patrick (Giselle): His memory lives on with his six much-loved grandchildren, Carly, Sara, Megan, Eduardo, Antonio, and Sophia. John was preceded in death by his sister Trixie, and he will be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews and his brother-in-law, Bud, as well as by Barbara's sister Margaret.
John grew up in Vancouver and loved sports, especially tennis, soccer, and English Rugby. John graduated from Kitsilano High School and U.B.C. Commerce, and his banking career took him to many small cities in British Columbia, including several on Vancouver Island, in the Okanagan, and even a few years at head office in Montreal, Quebec before he finally settled down in North Vancouver. He loved the communities he lived in, and he always gave back in many ways such as coaching local minor soccer teams and participating in many clubs and service organizations.
John spent many happy summers on Bowen Island with his fondest memories including fishing with his sons. John enjoyed the serenity of nature and simply relaxing at the cabin with an ocean view. He became an avid gardener in his later years (much to his own surprise). He developed a keen eye for pruning trees and shrubs. He loved his home and his family, and he will be dearly missed for his strength of character, sense of humour, wisdom and kindness.
