Josephine SMITH Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Josephine was born on January 30th 1912 on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia and passed away peacefully in North Vancouver on May 29th 2011. Josephine was predeceased by her parents Donald and Mary MacDonald, her twelve older brothers and sisters, and her loving husband Walter in 1986. Walter and Josephine married in Toronto in 1941 and came to Vancouver a year later where they started their family. In 1951 they moved to North Vancouver where Josephine was an active CWL member at Holy Trinity and St. Stephens parishes for 60 years. Josephine is dearly missed by her children and their partners; Sharon Reynolds (Malcolm Farrell deceased in 2010), Donna and Bill Wright, Gerry and Penny Smith, Peter Smith and Audrey Maynard, and John Reynolds. Grandma is dearly missed by her grandchildren and their partners; Michelle and Darrell Tack, Tracey and Chris Bradshaw, Tyler Smith, and Jineene and Luke Robertson. Gigi is dearly missed by her great grandchildren Mackenzie, Riley, Peter, Danielle, William, and Samuel. Josephine showed true strength and passion until the end of her full life when she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. A special thanks to the nursing team at Cedarview Lodge for their care and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday June 6th at 10:30am at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 1360 East 24th Street, North Vancouver. A reception will follow at the church hall.

Sharon, Donna, Gerry & Peter:

Frank phoned and told me of your mother's passing. Knowing how sad it is to lose one's parents, my heart is with you all.

I echo Frank's thoughts, remembering clearly how much your mom and mine enjoyed each other's company. I remember too your parents coming to visit my parents and how much laughter there was.

God bless all of you.

To the Smith family;

As far back as I can remember your mother was a part of our mother's life. She was always a good friend to our mother and was particularly kind to her after the passing of our father driving her mass each Sunday. They had frequent telephone conversations and lunches.

Any contact we had with Mac ended when we left the North Shore some years ago but I have often thought of her and now am saddened to learn of her passing.

She, as you know, was a wonderful person and I am certain is reaping the joys of her faith and kindness in heaven.

Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
