Lanie Badger, 56, of Moore, and formerly of Altus, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014 at Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Lanie was born in Altus on June 24, 1958 to John Snow Badger, IV and Carolyn (Kilburn) Badger. Lanie graduated from Altus High School class of 1976 where she was member of the KAY Club and a cheerleader. After high school Lanie was involved with the Altus Community Theater, a KAY Club sponsor, and she was actively involved in the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain. Lanie received a Bachelor's Degree from Howard Payne University in 2007 and worked as a Behavioral Health Counselor in Oklahoma City where she had a true passion for serving others. Lanie loved being at the lake and was an avid water skier, she loved playing the piano and being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and friends. Lanie was a diehard OU Sooner fan. Of all her accomplishments, Lanie's greatest achievements have been in the lives of her family and friends. She had a unique gift to recognize and appreciate the talents in others and to make them feel loved and lifted by her presence. Her contagious laugh, zest for life, and brilliant smile touched everyone she knew. Her generous heart filled her home with love, fun, family and friends, including an attitude that there was always room for one more. She leaves her family and friends with the heartfelt knowledge that they were truly loved.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John "Papa" and Beverly "Windy" Badger; John and Hattie Kilburn; her father, John Snow Badger, IV; her mother, Carolyn Ann (Kilburn) Myers; step-father, Carroll Myers, who she was very close to; one brother, John Snow Badger, V; and one sister, Rebecca Ann Badger.
Lanie is survived by one son, Tanner Scott Swihart of Norman; two daughters, Emily Katherine Swihart Vollmeier and her husband Richard of Oklahoma City; Lindsay Leigh Swihart of Altus; two sisters, Randy Badger Hubble and her husband Frank of Yukon; Jennifer Badger Bogle and her husband Harold of Altus; one step-brother, Ron Myers of Oregon; one step-sister, Tawna Shultz and her husband David of Edmond; nine grandchildren, Morgan Poling, Madison Derr, McKenna Derr, Natalie Vollmeier, Eric Vollmeier, all of Oklahoma City, Alexis Hawkins, Abby Hawkins, Hunter Hawkins, all of Moore, and Bryson Swihart of Norman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowell-Tims Chapel in Altus.
