Marian Willetts Obituary
Marie passed away peacefully in North Vancouver.
Lovingly remembered by her family: son Brett (Dani); daughter Sally (Terry); son David (Connie), and her four dear grandchildren, Kailey (Ilaina), Lindsay (Josh), Erin (Connor), and Jackson; and her three great-grandchildren, Marie, Ellis, and Henry.
She now joins her husband Alan (deceased 2007) for a "cuppa tea and a chat."
Marie grew up in Birmingham, England, and immigrated to Ontario, Canada, with Alan in 1952. A stay-at-home Mom, she raised the three children with loving care as they worked their way across Canada to eventually settle in North Vancouver in 1967. Marie was a keen participant in curling, watching the children figure skate and play hockey, her neighborhood jogging club, and the "League of Health & Beauty." In retirement, they spent 20+ years at Arbutus Ridge (Vancouver Island) square dancing in the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremonies and travelling and learning at Elder Hostels. The grandchildren have fond memories of being pampered at Baba's house, playing Chinese Checkers, and going on many fun outings in the Cowichan Valley.
She had the good fortune of spending her last 9 years at Cedar Springs in North Vancouver, where she always complained of the many "old people" there, even though she was one herself! Marie enjoyed all the extended family birthdays and Christmases and was always a willing participant. Everyone loved "Queen Marie."
Marie was able to make it to her 100th Surprise Birthday Party surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. As she arrived, she said, "I'd better go work the room," and went off to greet everyone. Full of life and love to the very end. We all will miss her dearly!
We would like to thank the nurses and doctors at LGH for the consummate care and attention provided in her last few days.
