Mary Glavin Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Glavin (nee Ritchie) passed away peacefully with family at her side on November 13th, 2025, in North Vancouver, B.C.
The family is very grateful to Dr. Rahnavardi as well as the medical and care staff at Lynn Valley Care Centre, where she enjoyed living for the last 7 years.
Elizabeth, known as Libby in her youth, grew up on a farm in Tummel, which is located just south of Roblin in Manitoba. She was predeceased (1960) by her parents, Gibson and Christina Ritchie, who instilled in her the values of family, compassion, a strong work ethic, and continuous learning. She cherished her two sisters, Margaret Atkin, who passed away in 2014, and Ethel Perchaluk, who lives in Winnipeg, MB.
Elizabeth attended the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg and, after graduating, was a teacher at Tech Voc School in Winnipeg. While working and living in Winnipeg, she met her future husband, John Glavin. They married in 1957 and moved to Vancouver and then North Vancouver in 1958, where they lived and cherished each other until John passed away in 2021.
Elizabeth was a talented teacher, librarian, chef, musician, and textile artist. She was a devoted friend and, in turn, had devoted friends that she cherished.
She was a loving mother who passed on the values she was raised with to her three children: Christine Cathcart (Pat) of Richmond, B.C., Gibson Glavin (Audrey) of Sherwood Park, AB, and Jim Glavin (Suzanne) of Winnipeg, MB.
Elizabeth was also a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.
She cherished the lives and memories of two grandchildren who predeceased her - Brendan Glavin, who passed away in 2002, and Andrew Glavin, who passed away in 2022.
To the end of her days, she cherished and enjoyed her other grandchildren and great-grandchildren: granddaughter Elizabeth Hawkins (Sean) and great-grandchildren Kian and Alice; grandson Sean Glavin (Shea); granddaughter Kathleen Cathcart (Robert); grandson Liam Glavin; and granddaughter Kristin Glavin (Alanna).
A family gathering for the inurnment of both our beloved parents will take place in the summer of 2026 at the Deer Park Cemetery in Tummel, MB.
