Mary RODE Obituary

It is with heartache, eased by numerous memories, that we mark the death of Mary Rode, wife, mother, grandma, auntie, friend. Raised in Kerrisdale, Mary and her husband 'Howie' made their lifelong home in Lynn Valley, until dementia robbed her of independence but not her independent spirit. Mary's passions in life were music and mountains. Mary studied piano, sang in choirs and light opera choruses, and played low brass in concert bands. She pursued her love of the outdoors with the Varsity Outdoor Club, Alpine Club of Canada, Dogwood Canoe Club, VNHS, as well as on family camping, hiking, skiing, paddling and mountaineering adventures. A generous volunteer behind the scenes, she is a recipient of the ACC Distinguished Service award. Mary is survived by her husband Howard, daughter Marilynn (Chris), son Brian (Heidi), grandchildren Jeff, Peter, Erica, Liam, Lar, and Lochlan, nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mary's life will be held Wed. Aug 29, 1 – 4 pm at the (new) Enquist Lodge on Mt. Seymour. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to North Shore Rescue.

Hi Howie,
It is a sad time for all of us. We have many happy memories of times with the VNHS, Dogwood and canoeing, chats about wood canvas canoes and the trip down the North Thompson with Mary.
Stay strong. Boudi and Joyce van Oldenborgh

I will miss seeing Mary and Howie walk up and down the back lane to and from their house, as well I will miss our chats and talking about the stars.
