Peter HORTON Obituary

HORTON, Peter Dean

Peter Dean Horton passed away at home in Woodlands on August 2, 2024 at the age of 67. A steadfastly private man, he chose to keep his three-year battle with cancer quiet. Peter lived life quiet, and loud. Loud in love for those close to him, for the water, for the mountains, and for his many and evolving interests, which he pursued with passion and precision.

A North Van boy who spent his summers in Sechelt, Peter developed into a skilled athlete in such fine shape that he survived a massive brain aneurysm experienced while biking in the remote reaches of Manning Park. After years of keeping quiet and learning to walk, talk, and move again, Pete thrived, always in his own way.

Pete loved biking, boats, skiing, hiking, yoga, stars, fish, music, and a solid potty joke. He was curious and open-minded and a firm supporter of the underdog. He was kind to his core.

Peter is predeceased by his beloved parents Jack and Ethel Horton and leaves older brother Mike and sister-in-law Cindy, nieces Chelsea and Brie and their husbands Rowan and Graham, his two "greats" Jack and Grace, the extended Horton family, friends at the Vancouver Water Ski Club and Jamie Elvidge, with whom he was especially close.

Our gratitude to the outstanding staff on the 6th floor at BC Cancer whose positive attitudes and dedicated care eased Peter's journey.

Peter was a very important person in my life. We `grew up´ together and I have always, and will always have a special place in my heart for him. God speed my friend.

Peter was a long time friend and he will be missed and remembered. From early days with his Samoyed puppy "Chimo" to his mountain biking days winning races, even racing in the Canadian Nationals, riding his bike to Nelson BC. A true mountain man. The photo was taken on a bike trip to Kauai in 1984.
RIP Peter.
