1932 - 2021

DUNCAN, Robert Keith August 10, 1932 - November 17, 2021 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Keith Duncan of West Vancouver at the age of 89. Keith was predeceased by his parents, William Wallace Duncan and Shirley Jackson Duncan, and his three siblings, Geoff, Mary and David. Also predeceasing Keith was his wife and mother of his children, Dorothy Duncan, as well as his second wife, Mitzi Stamm. Keith is survived by his four children Janice, Judy (Ken), Valerie, and Don (Christine); his seven grandchildren Stephanie (Lee), Duncan (Jayda), Adam (Michelle), Scott (Michela), Kelsey (Ben), Lindsay and Sean; as well as his five delightful great-grandchildren Myles, Maxton, Marlowe, Lily and Oliver, all of whom brought Keith so much happiness and joy. He is also survived by Mitzi's three children, Jeffrey, Robbie, and Philip. Keith was born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia. He met his beloved Dorothy while attending Victoria High School and they were married in 1952. The young couple moved to Burnaby where Dorothy was an elementary school teacher and Keith worked as a Chartered Accountant in Vancouver. They built a house on Rosebery Avenue, in West Vancouver in 1955 which served as a loving home for their four children for 25 years. With a cabin on Saltspring Island, and later one on Bowen Island, the family cherished time in the summers boating, swimming, and biking, always with an abundance of laughter. Later in his life, Keith married Mitzi and they enjoyed several decades of adventures together. Keith looked forward to his many rounds of early morning golf with his good friends at Desert Horizons Country Club in Palm Springs, their favourite annual snowbird destination. Keith recently reconnected with a high school friend, Joan Nielson. Joan's companionship enriched the final six years of Keith's life. They were very active, and their time together was spent enjoying Palm Springs, cruising warmer seas, dining at the Capilano Golf and Country Club with family and friends, and sipping martinis on the deck at home. Keith was a true gentleman, who was well respected and known to be an upstanding citizen. He was service-oriented and community-minded. He served on the Boards of the West Vancouver Library, West Vancouver Foundation, West Vancouver United Church, Science World and Terminal City Club. He never passed up an opportunity to travel as a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade to intriguing global destinations. His energetic and dynamic personality, his sense of fun and adventure, his willingness to take risks, and his devotion to his loved ones, led to a full and rich experience - he was a true lover of life! The family would like to express their gratitude to all the first responders who were so kind and respectful during such a difficult time. They would also like to thank the amazing health care providers in the Oncology Clinic at Lions Gate Hospital, the Palliative Care Unit, and the Ambulatory Clinic at the West Vancouver Community Centre for their compassion and care throughout the final months of Keith's life. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the MS Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
