Robert HARPER Obituary

August 31 1941 - November 7, 2010

Bob passed away peacefully on November 7 at Eden Care Home, Chilliwack, B.C. from Alzheimer Disease with his family by his side, and his favorite music playing. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jennifer (Jenny) of 45 years, son Paul (Sasa) grandsons Jacob and Eric, son Martin (Layla), and his many dear friends in B.C. and Ontario and relations overseas.

Bob was a wonderful husband, dad, grand dad and friend. He loved soccer, golf, sailing, skiing and singing.

The family would like to thank the staff at Eden Care who took care of Bob so well.
Special thanks to dear friends, without whose support through the past two years, this would have been a lonely road.

A celebration of Bob's life is planned for the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer Research.

There's a Piper Doon.

Hemlock Valley, Bob, sprawled in a twist of skis on the snow, in front of a crowd of onlookers, bellowing in a Scottish accent, "There's a piper doon!!!"
Part of our memories of one of the nicest guys we know. A hard working man who loved his wife and family, a loyal friend, and a serious party boy.
Bob loved life and lived it to the full. Soccer, golf with buddies, camping, skiiing at Hemlock, and noisy house parties were all part of his world.
Whether he showed up, frequently dressed in full Scottish regalia, or more simply in a housewife's apron with a tray of hors d'oevres, we all knew that, sadly, there would be a complete lack of underthings. He was known for that particular style.
John remembers the fun times at the Hay's cabin. Once when he had turned in for the night, dozens of us, Bob and Dudley included, conga-lined around the cabin, climbed up into the loft singing and clambered over John in bed. I could go on with other cavorting stories but I would be wisely censored.
Bob taught us and our four children, by his example, not to take life too seriously - with his cheery manner and humour.
We have frequently thought of Bob during the time of his poor health and we have missed him a lot in advance.
Jenny and Bob had a dream of travelling down the Baja coast with a camper and did actually have one vacation in Loreto, Mexico. We are heading down to Cabo San Lucas shortly and will grab a Corona and toast that larger than life man. Adios!
Well my friends, there is a piper doon!!!
Lots of Love,
Chris and John Warltier and family

Fond memories of Bob, he used to make us laugh with his stories from when he was a boy in Barnet, England. He will be missed by everyone here, a dear cousin and nephew. Thinking of all the family, lots of love always from Janet, Simon, Carlo, Joyce and Andrew.

We were sad to hear about Bob passing and hope he is at peace now. Our memories of Bob are full of fun and laughter, 'mooning' on New Years Eve, the life of every party! Our thoughts are with you Jenny and your family.

We have known Bob and Jenny close to 30 years and we have never seen Bob in a bad mood. What a great happy and fun loving man he was and still is in our hearts. We have partied and laughed in all 5 houses they have owned in the lower mainland. We really enjoyed our visits to Chilliwack for a weekend of golf and to indulge in a little plunk oops i mean a lot of plunk. We truly believe that we have seen more of Bob's backside than his face. He really is one of a kind never to be seen again and we miss him.
Jenny it was wonderful to see how you cared and looked after Bob though his horrible ordeal. He is now at peace and he goes on his way knowing how you and his kids and grandkids and friends loved and cared about him.
We send our love to you Jenny, Paul and his family and Martin.

We knew Bob from his visits to Geneva to our friend Eileen, Jenny's sister. He was such a likeable, warm character, with a good sense of humour and it was a real pleasure to have known him. In this difficult time, our thoughts are with Jenny and her family.

The world has lost an outrageous, fun, competative, gregarious man to a truly horrible disease, and we have lost a very, very dear friend.
Bob, or "Ginge" as he was sometimes called by me, was a very competent sailor, he played racquet ball like a demon and was a great "stink bidder" at bridge. Bob was not shy. He had a penchant for removing his clothes and dressing-up. He loved to shock people, but it was always in fun. Lynn fondly remembers Bob's love of music and his great dance moves.
He has been a wonderful friend to me and my family since 1974 and we sorely miss him.
Our love to Jenny, Paul and Family, and Martin from Chester & Lynn Spink and Family

Bob - you and Jenny have been such a big part of my life. Especially my teen years. I loved coming over to your place. Again when I moved to Vancouver there you both were letting me stay with you. We had some wild times in Vancouver and I'll never forget them or you. Always a lot of laughing - I also enjoyed my time babysitting the boys. I won't forget you Bob, I'll bet right now you are having a pint and a good laugh. Say hi to Arnie for me OK. Cheers
Love Helen

Bob was the first person I met when coming to Canada in 1964 and he typically took me under his wing to show me the ropes in this new adventure. I remember so much about those early days. Our stay at the "British Embassy" on Caroline Street, getting married within a month of each other, the many good times at local nighteries, the list goes on and includes those trips we made to Vancouver. We have all lost a great friend in his passing.
My thoughts and prayers are offered for Jenny, Paul and Martin and families.

I was pleased that I had a chance to say farewell to Bob on my recent visit. He is now at peace and is in a better place. Hopefully, one day there will be a cure for this dreadful disease and in the meantime I will continue to donate to research.
