Sam McGladdery Obituary
With deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Sam McGladdery on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Hospice in North Vancouver.
Sam was born in Kelowna into a large family of twelve children. From an early age, his first love was hockey. A natural goal scorer, he led every team he played on. As a young boy, he walked five miles to practice, and his greatest fear was that the ice rink might have burned down. He played well into adulthood and loved to joke, "When I was on the ice, the red light went on!"
Sam's passion for golf began while caddying for his father. He always dreamed of becoming a member of the prestigious Capilano Golf Club; a dream realized in 1977. There, he forged many lasting friendships, enjoying endless teasing, laughter, and friendly wagers-often reminding others that "You drive for show and putt for dough."
After high school, Sam moved to Vancouver and joined an automotive accessory company. In 1970, he formed his own successful agency, building a career that spanned more than 50 years. He was widely respected for his honesty, integrity, strong work ethic, and famously firm handshake. His competitive spirit carried through every aspect of his life-"Second is for someone else."
Above all else, Sam cherished his family. He shared his love of adventure with them through memorable trips to Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. His quick wit, quips, and one-liners will live on through his children and grandchildren.
Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Judy; his son Kevin (Shauna); his daughter Sara (Thomas); and his four adored grandchildren, Ryan, Mark, Eric, and Keira. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings Kevin, Terry, Eileen, Shawn, and Kaye, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 26th, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Capilano Golf and Country Club.
