Tony Verga Obituary

Verga - Tony (Vitantonio) Feb 20, 1956 - October 17, 2014 A devoted family man Tony was happiest sitting down to a home cooked Italian meal surrounded by those he cherished most. He will be profoundly missed by family and friends both here and in Italy but none more so than his wife Michelle Ward, son Alex (Alessandro); his sister Elizabetta Laterza (Piermario) nephew Giovanni (Anna) grand niece Carlotta, niece Anna; sister Nilla; brother John (Rosanna) nephews Anthony and Nicholas; sisters in law Marcy Ward and Cari Ward-Polster (Michael), niece Kaeli. Tony joins his father and mother, Antonio & Giovanna Verga, to watch over us. We will be gathering to celebrate Tony's life Friday October 24, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Boal Chapel 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers please consider a blood donation to Canadian Blood Services or making a contribution to the charity of your choice in Tony's name.

So sorry Michelle and Alex, we can only imagine the heartfelt loss you are going through, as are we. I worked with Tony for 26 years in different capacities and he was someone you could always rely on and get you out of a bind if need be. Not only that we took in all the big soccer games together that Italy played in, if it was during work hours...! An extra long lunch here and there, not too often though! I wasn't aware of what happened to him this past June as we were wondering where he was during World Cup, he was missed. Now he's able to attend all the big matches in spirit as his spiruit flies over us. Rest in peace Tony, till we meet again.

Michelle, Alex and family, one can only echo the loving words of those around you - Tony was one of a kind, and he has left a void in your world - we are deeply sorry for your loss, but are thankful to have shared in his life, with you. The picture you chose is the Tony we will remember. May the love and support of close friends, and family, guide you through the coming days/weeks. May Tony find his way to a crystal clear, seemingly endless, peaceful, tropical, sheltered cove, as his next journey.

From the poem 'I am always with you' -"And if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near. And if you listen with your hear, you'll hear all my love around you soft and clear. And then when you come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and a "Welcome Home" (unknown poet)

To Michelle and Alex: Deeply sorry about Tony. I worked directly with him for about 18 years and losing him was like losing a close family member of my own family. He was a classy individual and the world won't see another like him for a long time.

Besides being friends since the boys were in Kindergarten, Tony was the soccer coach for so many years. His whole demeanor brightened when speaking of Alex and Michelle. He was so proud of both.
