Christopher Duteau Obituary

Duteau, Christopher Paul 1967-2023 Christopher "Chris" Duteau was born on December 17, 1967, in Edmonton Alberta. He was the youngest of four children born to Raymond Duteau and Julie Duteau. Growing up in Penticton, B.C. he attended West Bench Elementary, Princess Margaret Junior High, and graduated from Pen Hi in 1987. He participated in the Junior Hockey league, Penticton Swim Club, soccer, and Cub Scouts. After high school, he set off for Washington State where he attended Gonzaga University in Spokane, graduating in 1989 with a degree in business administration. One of the highlights of his college studies was doing the Gonzaga in Florence, Italy program. He studied there for a year, and experienced Europe as well as learning Italian. After he earned his degree, he managed shopping malls in Vancouver, then later moved to the Edmonton area where he acquired management positions in construction companies. Chris had a lust for life and enjoyed fishing, hunting, pool, waterskiing, and cooking. He observed and emulated cooks he had admired and mastered dishes from simple ingredients. He loved languages and enjoyed his daily Mandarin lessons. His love for music was something he especially shared with his sister, Jackie. They could go years without seeing each other, and start off exactly where they left,.... with a bear hug and an ear-worm challenge to see who could get the worst song stuck on repeat! Chris had a brief marriage, and became a father with the birth of his daughter, Dominique Duteau, and son Mitchell Duteau. Later he married Ge Yi Hong (Eva) and they lived together happily in Penticton. Chris was characterized as a very warm, kind and honest person. Associates and friends said he was easy to do business with, and he gave the biggest warmest bear hugs ever, to those he cared for. Chris died on December 25th, 2023, after a lengthy illness, while visiting with family in Spokane to celebrate his birthday and Christmas. Chris is survived by his father, Ray Duteau (Sherilyn), mother, Julie Duteau, his brother, Maurice Duteau (Shirley), his sister, Susan Duteau, and his sister Jacqueline Harvey (Dave). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and dear friends. A memorial celebration of Chris's life will be held at a later date.

So sorry to hear of your passing, Chris. We were really close in the 90s. We were kids. But we had many many good times: the ranch, the branding, the Volkswagen bus, camping, fishing, the Fairview condo, crabbing, the cats (SharkBait and Puppy Chow), the VW Bug, the deer in the garage (ugh). And friends for all of the last
years. You will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Chris passing away! I first met him Junior year 1987 for the GU in Florence program when we were two travel bumpkins from Penticton and Bellevue, WA. We did not hit it off right away but as the year went on we found our connection thru travel, comedy, music and alcohol. :) Lots of great memories and laughs. The world is a lesser place without him. Thank You for your friendship Chris! Love Ya buddy.
