MCCURRY, David: With sadness, we share that David McCurry, age 86, of White Rock and Penticton, BC, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in London, England, David loved playing rugby and spent many childhood summers on the family farm in Myroe, Northern Ireland. He began his career in London as a general practitioner before moving to Canada with his wife, Alida. After specializing as an anesthesiologist in Edmonton, they settled in Penticton, where David became known for his gentle and caring bedside manner. After 51 years in Penticton, David and Alida moved to White Rock to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Alida passed away in March 2022. David will be lovingly remembered by his children, Theresa of White Rock and Paul of Vancouver, along with his six grandchildren. David's life was filled with passion, laughter, and a healthy dose of competition. An avid golfer, he affectionately earned the nickname "Dr. Death" after a memorable hole-in-one and he rarely missed a men's night. He especially enjoyed playing at Fairview Golf Course in Oliver. He was also a devoted skier, carving countless runs with his friends and family at Apex. At home, while he didn't share Alida's love of cooking, he took great pleasure in collecting red wines and hosting dinner parties - nights filled with music, dancing, and stories that stretched into the wee hours of the morning. In his final reflections, David told his children that he had lived a good life and was proud of his family. He leaves behind many beautiful memories and a legacy of warmth, humor, and devotion. A private family service with immediate family only will be held. In keeping with his wishes, donations may be made to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation in lieu of flowers. The family wishes to thank the palliative care team at Melville Hospice for their kindness and support.
