WESTSTEYN, Diane: 1937-2019. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Diane Weststeyn. Diane was a paraplegic for 49 years and struggled daily with chronic pain and was anxious to meet her Lord and Saviour; Home at last!! She passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2019 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband Andy, daughter Annette, son Peter (Cindy), son Andy (Cathy) and five grandchildren. Diane was born in Holland, married to Andy in April 1960 and shortly after immigrated to Canada. They settled in Toronto, ON where their three children were born. In 1967, Andy was transferred, and they moved to Montreal, QC. In 1970, Diane got paralyzed and after being in the hospital and rehab centre for 9 months she returned home to take up her role of running the household. Diane did an amazing job and never complained even though her chronic pain was bothering her immensely. They all were awestruck at how well she handled herself in the wheelchair. Her slogan ALWAYS was "You can make it better or bitter it's up to you!!!!" - only one letter different. After living in Montreal for 17 years, Andy was transferred to Vancouver, BC. Diane always enjoyed a change so moving to the West was not a challenge. They settled in Coquitlam, BC and enjoyed living there for 14 years until Andy's retirement in 1997. Soon after that they decided to move to the Okanagan as Diane needed a drier climate due to her struggles with arthritis and they settled in West Kelowna. Diane and Andy were always very much involved with volunteering, church activities and gatherings with friends and neighbours. Diane was an amazing woman and has been a great inspiration and positive influence to many around her. She loved the Lord and was a real testimony to us all. We will miss her immensely and thank her for her humor, courage and patience during her sickness. We love you and will NEVER forget your positive attitude!! We would like to thank the Interior Health nursing/care aids staff who looked after her daily with dedication and love for several months during her illness. It was so appreciated! A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Rd, Kelowna, BC.
